SAHAR SAJJAD
School: University of Calgary
I am a graduate student at the Cumming School of Medicine whose passion for healthcare has been shaped by both personal experiences and years of volunteering in hospitals and community organizations.
Through these roles, I have had the privilege of supporting patients and families as they navigate complex healthcare systems, which has deepened my commitment to improving patient care and health outcomes. This commitment extends to both my research and advocacy work. As a researcher, I focus on advancing our understanding of heart disease and exploring ways to support earlier diagnosis and more personalized care. Beyond the lab, I am passionate about patient advocacy and work with organizations that connect individuals to healthcare, mental health, and community resources, helping them access the support they need to thrive. When I am not studying, I enjoy spending time with my birds, who never fail to brighten my day. I love discovering unique cafés around Calgary and catching up with friends over a good cup of coffee. When I need a quiet moment, I often turn to poetry, finding inspiration in the way words can capture emotion and perspective. Photography is another passion of mine. Whether it is a mountain landscape, a winding trail, or a quiet sunset, I enjoy capturing the beauty of the world around me.
